Is the Canon PowerShot A640 10MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom a good camera?

For approximately $337.83 and the fact that it comes with a free memory card, what do you think?
10 MP, 4x Optical Zoom?

Consumer Reports for November 2006 has ranked the Canon Powershot A620 as the best compact digital camera. It is becoming almost a legend for longevity at the top of various consumer lists. It looks like this model has been replaced by the A630, which I would expect to be just as popular. The A640 appears quite similar and shares the "600" series numbering, so I guess it's just another upgraded version of the now-classic A620. It looks pretty much the same except for baing a 10 MP camera. The continuous drive is a little slower, but the files are larger, so that's no surprise. I'd buy it myself.

With this camera, you will find the memory card is a cute little token of thanks from Canon, but not much more. Buy a 1 GB Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III card. You will NEED the increased capacity and write speed to fully realize the benefits of your camera.

I'm not sure but I would recommend going to www.cnet.com and www.epinion.com and do a search for that specific model. I use these sites and they have a lot of good info, consumer reviews, and pricing. You might also check the pc magazine website. They review cameras as well. Good luck

Yes it is a great little camera. It also has a stabilizer for when you use the LCD screen. It has a view finder also.

I think that is a great deal........I have the powershot 450 and i love it...... it is a rockin camera and for that price i would say hell yeah

my friend has a 7mp canon that looks the same, the 640 has a bigger screen. and that's one fantastic camera! a solid camera by a solid company, you can't go wrong. I sell this camera at my work for $485 CDN, I think I should go over the border and get one!

But watch out for the memory card, each 10mp pic will be 5MB, so a 512MB memory card will hold 100 photos. I would recommend taking 10mp photos and shrinking them later on your computer, no point getting a 10mp camera and taking 4mp pics
