I just got a Canon Powershot camera. I took some pics and tried puting them on my moms computer. The computer did not respond to the camera at all. I installed the software that came with it and connected it with the USB wire that came with the camera. This also happens with other canon powershots we tried to connect yet it works for my moms computer...
If anyone could help ASAP that would be great! No, there is no trick at all. Canon cameras are great and connect easily...and you don't even have to install the software really, because Win XP automatically detects the camera when you plug it it into the PC.
However, if your Mum's computer is old and outdated (what version of Windows does she have?), then you should still be able to install whatever program you need easily.
Just make sure that when you connect the camera to the computer with the USB cable, that the camera is switched OFF...and then turn it ON once it's connected.
Or, you could try putting the SD card into a card reader...and then plugging it into the USB port (the PC should recognise it as a removable drive) and then you should be able to view photos easily.
Other than that, I don't really know how to help you.
Good luck. is your mom's computer up to date? or it could just be something wrong with that brand. The camera usually requires more power, so try connecting to one of the USB ports in the back of the computer, because those ports are located directly on the motherboard. Next, make sure to temporarily remove all imaging devices (printer, scanner, fax, copier all-in-one units, other cameras, webcams, etc...) that connect via USB. Making sure the camera is turned off, connect the cable to the camera, THEN turn the camera on in Playback mode (little blue arrow). If you are running Windows XP, you DO NOT need the software that came with the camera. After you get the "Found New Hardware" pop-up, go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, then click Scanner & Camera Wizard. It should walk you through the rest.
Hope that helps. If not, call Canon at 1-800-828-4040. Their Tech Support is absolutely free. |
