Will my rechargable batteries recharged while it is inside my digital camera and the digital camera is plugged

Will my rechargable batteries recharge while it is inside my digital camera and the digital camera is plugged into my computer?

They are regular AA batteries and I have a Canon digital camera. I'm on vacation and want to know if the rechargable batteries that are in the camera will recharge while I plug it in to my computer and turn it on? I don't have a multimeter or anything.

Sorry, but I no. You have to re-charge separate re-charging batteries in their unit. The camera itself will only charge one of those batteries that comes with it, and when plugged into an electrical outlet. Also, I've noticed, that if I plug in my camera with AA batteries in it, it zaps the power from them. Sounds like you need to run down to a nearby drugstore and buy some AAs! I try to keep a pack in my glove box. Seems like my camera or someone else's always runs out at the wrong time! Many people comment that the camera companies need to come out with a camera that charges through the USB cable. Until then, keep some spare batteries.

Digital cameras normally do not have any charging 'smarts' built in, they require charging to be done with an external device.

Plugging in a power cord into the camera simply powers the camera, but does NOT charge the battery (not for any Digital camera i've seen, but who knows, it might be in some camera).

Basically, don't count on charging up a battery while it is inside your camera.

I doubt it. Most cameras will recharge their own proprietary batteries, but not standard AA or AAA batteries.

The reason is that the camera cannot distinguish between a rechargeable NiCd, NiMH, alkaline or standard battery. Ni-Cd & NiMH use different charging voltages.

If it starts to recharge a non-rechargeable battery like Lithium or Alkaline or standard battery, the battery could leak and ruin the camera.

No. It wouldn't. Unlike iPod or some cell phone, the battery of the digital camera is charging using a separate charger. It doesn't matter how long you plug in your computer. It won't re-charge and won't affect the battery life. In fact, most digital camera and its software might actually turn your camera off after certain minutes of inactivity.

NO.
Digital camera does not have build-in charger.
