I am interested in buying a 7 or 8 megapixel digital camera. i would like to know which of these two models you recommend (canon or nikon) and which model number would you think has best OVERALL features to offer. What i am looking at is a digital camera that can capture sharp colors and also works in low light areas for example taking a night shot in las vegas strip. Your inputs are highly appreciated and i look forward in hearing from all of you. It depends on how much you want to spend the canon d20 is a great professional camera it cost around 1100 dollars if your looking to spend about 300 less consider the Canon EOS Digital REBEL XT SLR this is a wonderfull camera with lots of great features.. For around 800 dollars this is about the best there is!! But if your looking for real value at 600 dollars you can't get a better picture than you will get with the Lumix DMC-FZ30K This camera takes awesome pics clear sharp and very color acurate.. I own the fz10k and am very satisfied with the quality and features. For night shots on the Vegas strip, it is important to have a stable tripod. That is, unless you are taking pictures of the signs themselves. Regardless, in a DSLR it is the lens and not the body that drives the speed. You can get some fairly fast lenses such as a 50mm f1.4 or the 85mm f1.4.
In terms of bodies, I would look at the Nikon D200 or the D70. While the D70 is only 6mp, to double the resolution requires quadrupling the megapixels. So a 6 and an 8 are closer than it would seem. In Canon, the 20d and the Rebel XT come to mind.
In point & shoots I like the Canon and the Panasonics.
You might want to start by looking at the reviews in http://www.dpreview.com/ (as well as the user forums).
PS: If you end up with a dslr, it is all about the lenses. So think of it as buying into a lens lineup -- they will be with you for many years. It really does depend on how much you want to spend but Canon without a doubt. I wouldn't give it a second thought. I already have a Canon 35mm SLR and a 7.1MP digital camera. But right now I am going to sell the digital camera and buy myself the Canon S80. It has everything you could ever imagine. Trust me, you won't regret it at all!!! |
