Which is a good digital camera (not canon) for around $200-$300?

Here in Canada, a reasonably good camera for about that price (this is in Canadian Dollars and before taxes) would be the Sony Cybershot DSCW30. If you're in America or elsewhere in the world, that camera will cost even less and there may be other models that are inside that range. However, if you want the absolute best, Canon unfortunately will be your best bet (I only say unfortunately because you request not Canon in the question)

Canon is no good at all in my opinion. I had a Sony cyber-shot p-72 and when the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S40 came out I had to get one. It was only $142 after taxes at Wal-Mart and takes absolutley wonderful pictures. It even has a movie maker on it that can hold a pretty long movie.

Nikon makes great cameras, I would say they are better than canon.

Olympus Camedia, I think I paid around 250 for it & I've had it for 2 years and never had any problems with it and the quality is really good.
