Canon D-20 digital camera?

Has anyone who owns this camera have any mechanical problems with it. I have one that is less than 2 years old which I have used very little and it has turned out to be a real lemon. Worse camera I have ever had Now I have noticed that canon has pulled this camera from their camera line.

I don't own this camera, but I feel your pain.

It might be better to simply say that the 20D was updated and replaced by the 30D, which is something all camera makers do. This does not indicate any problems with the 20D, but simply progress.

There seems to have been a disconnect on certain DSLR camera manufacturers when it comes to robust features. I have a Nikon F4 that has way over a million rolls of film through it and it is still performing as it did when new. I expect (and have found so far) my Nikon DSLR's to provide the same consistent reliability.

That said, the specifications on the Canon D30 lists the shutter life of being 100,000 shutter actuation's. That frankly scares me. My oldest Nikon D100 has over 140,000 shutter actuation's and is still performing as it did new.

You must already have a lot of money invested in Canon lenses, so changing over to Nikon or some other camera body would not make much sense. You may want to buy one of Canon's "professional" grade bodies like the 5D. I know it is about a grand more than your 20D cost, but it may be worth the money in the long run.

The only other option would be to sell your Canon glass and the 20D for what you can get for it and move over to the Nikon D200 and replace the lenses you had for your 20D with Nikon glass.

The professional photographers use both Nikon and Canon cameras because of their reliability ... you unfortunately found a lemon.

i have the 20d too... sorry about your problems but just because of 1 problem doest mean its the worst camera ever... what was the mechanical problem? if its the error 99 that just means you need to clean the contacts on your lens, the camera is still fine

and it wasn't pulled, it was just replaced with the 30d which is the same camera with only a few Minor things like a bigger LCD and Spot metering... and that camera is due to be replaced some time this year by the rumored 40d... there are very very few cameras that are still top of the line after 2 years.

also take note that film shutters seem to last longer because how often do you shoot film at 5 fps? that's alot harder on the shutter if that was what failed on you then on filmsshot pause shot...

Canon replaced the D20 with the D30. Very normal. It does not mean that the D20 is bad. Hopefully, they will replace the D30 with D40 soon.

I am sorry to hear about your issues with the D20. I know several people who are VERY happy with the D20. Maybe you should bring it to a Canon Service Center and give it another chance.

But if you are so upset with it that you might want to throw it away.. Could you please, PLEASE throw it in my direction? :)

maybe that is why they pulled it

the only problem that i had with the camera was that the shutter went out after 3 years after heavy use. other than that the camera is still going
