Canon A640 digital camera doesn't have image stabilization. Should I purchase the G7 instead?

If you have an extra $200 to spend on the G7, go for it. I don't think that the lack of image stablization would be a big issue on the A640, as the lens "only" goes out to an equiv. 140mm, which should be no problem to hand hold at almost any speed.

Otherwise, I kind of like the fact that the A640 can use off-the-shelf "AA" alkaline batteries, if necessary, and the tilt-and-swivel LCD is pretty cool. It opens up new points of view for your photography.

You will be very happy with your camera and you will never wish you went with the G7, unless it's just time to move up to a DSLR anyhow. Congratulations. Report It

go for SD700/SD800 ...those two are the best with the point and shoot type of camera's and have image stabailization and around 4x optical zoom ..which is 33% more than the normal camera's
