Recover Pictures from a formatted SD Card ( Canon Digital camera)? |
I accidentally formatted my SD card and had to continue to take pictures, however I lost the valuable orginal pictures. First of all, stop taking pictures. Sandisk, the flash memory people reccommend a product for this Most likely you will never recover them. Formatting is a bit different than simply deleting them and harder to recover from. Once you started taking more pictures, those new images were written over the old ones. This essentially means they are gone forever. It may be possible to recover some images that were formatted but not overwritten using forensic software, but I have never had anything commercially available work. There is a reason data shredding programs use overwrite to permanently delete data, it can not be recovered. In-camera-formatting usually doesn't destroy your photos. But overwriting the "empty" space with new photos (as you did) does. |
