Why won't my Canon camera connect to the computer when it is literally connected?

I have a canon powershot SD1000 digital.

I guess I forgot to mention, I have done this before but for some reason it just seems to not work. The camera is on i tried every mode, the computer says it is not connected.

Have you installed the software? Is the camera turned off when you connect it? And then turned on once connected? Are the batteries adequately charged?

If you have a card reader, use that instead. You don't have to bother with software.

You need to unplug the camera, turn it off. Then plug it back in, turn it on, and wait. If nothing comes up, go to "My Computer" and you should see the camera icon there. Double Click it and there you are!

You have to turn on the camera ... sometimes in a certain mode ... read your manual and see if it tells you how to do that ... of course the camera must be turned on once it is connected ... not before.

lets go to 'basic t-shootiing'" ..

Take your camera to a friends computer, plug it in.. .. .if it works, problem is your computer... does not work? you camera...

I used to let my camera sit there but I would forget to turn it on so my computer didn't realize it was plugged in.

Did you full the mode down to playback ?
Install software again, delete the last time.

it is messed up. complain to canon and request a refund or an exchange
