Need help selecting a new Canon camera...?

I need a new camera...I want one that has image stabilization and very fast. Currently I own the Powershot 410 (I know its outdated)...and its very slow. I want to take pictures of my son (who moves around a lot) and by the time I take the picture...the shot is lost!

I was looking into another point and shoot...but now I'm thinking about an SLR..

I primarily load my pix to picasa...and I do some printing...I haven't had the need to print anything larger than 8 x 10...yet.

I don't really care about the cost...as long as it is a canon...and relatively easy to use. Suggestions for both point and shoot and SLR's will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you looked into the Canon I5 IS, it has great reviews on consumer reports and website reviews. Consumer reports has this as the second best (the first being a Sony DSC H9). I've used a Sony H5 and has worked really well, good pictures and pretty quick at taking pictures. Took pictures of a dog chasing shadows. The Canon seems to be rated better on other websites.

these were the sites that I used:
http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/index...
(you'll need a subscription or know some who has one)
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canons5i...
http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera
http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Canon_...
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/S5...

Look around these sites for other cameras and compare features and reviews.

Check out the Canon XTi and XSi cameras, they have virtually no lag time when shooting. They both are easy to use, with many preset options.

Another option would be the Canon S5IS or the Panasonic Lumix FZ series of cameras, both have very quick shutter response, especially in comparison to point and shoot cameras.

I got a Canon XTi 10mp a while back. It is great. It makes me look like a good photographer.

The speed far outstrips the pocket cameras. This was invaluable in January when I went whale watching in Hawaii. The people with pocket cameras was all frustrated with the speed. The animals had disappeared before the camera had reacted.

I recently upgraded my Powershot A75 to an SD750. It's really good, small, 3 inch screen. They actually have a mode for shooting children.

Consider the Cannon G11
Very fast..................
Has image stabilzation and a decent lens.

canon sd870
they are on sale almost everywhere

DSLR canon rebel XT 2.8 fps

get any NIKON D SERIES..

Its the KIng

Point and shoot: Powershot A720is.

DSLR: Rebel XTI

Hiya, yeah, I have a Canon A400, and I know what you mean about the shutter lag. It can be irritating, huh?
But, like you, I'm sold on the brand's functionality, ease-of-use and quality optics.
I'd suggest an upgrade to something in the 5-7 megapixel range, and I'm sold on the concept of standard sized 'AA' 's versus a proprietary battery pack/special charger. I use rechargeable NiMH batteries, but can use any alkaline 'AA' in a pinch.
Careful consideration in advance of your new camera purchase'll sure pay off in the end.
Good Luck!
