What brand of cameras are better, Sony or Canon?

I want a camera that takes good quality pictures and is small and portable.

Canon is better than Sony. Canon makes cameras, Sony makes everything. Specialization allows Canon to make a superior product. Also, Sony only allows you to use their Memory Stick form of media and it's not compatible with any other brand of camera. That alone is enough to make me never buy a Sony.

Generally in terms of dSLRS, you'd want to get either a Canon or Nikon.

For compact cameras, the Panasonic Lumix has the great advantage of a superb lens.

Both are equally great. Only thing which creates a difference is its models. If we take care to select a model that fits our requirements it will be ok for us. Try both links and decide yourself
