Which DSLR camera is superior; Nikon D40 or Canon Rebel Xt

Nikon D40:

Canon Rebel XT:

Which has the edge?

The one that sits in your hands better!

As they say - the beauty is in the eye of the beholder....

Same here. These are two great cameras, but one may feel better in your hands, be more intuitive to you or has just that little feature that you and only you will value the most.

Both are great cameras. Hard to call an absolute winner.

Canon vs Nikon war is almost as old as the two camera makers. You will hear (both here and in real life) lots of advices from users of either brand, that it is the one they have that you should get! I, for one, use one of these brands (I deliberately won't say which), and think that it is the brand to get... Though, it's my personal biased opinion....

But it will be YOU, you will use the camera in the end, so it should be YOU who decides and gets camera that's best for YOU, not THEM.

Here's a good starting place:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/

Read the reviews of both cameras. See the features and pros and cons and read all little details, then ask yourself - does one stand out?

Then go to a local camera store. Don't skip this step. Handle both cameras, mess with them, take a few shots, scout through the menus and settings, etc. One may just feel better in your hands than the other.

Then you'll know what is YOUR preference.
LEM.

just wanted to add... Ithink the rebel is superior... I have blog on it with links to a camera forum. I know that many pro photographers use the rebel as the lense interchange with almost any canon.

check out my blog even though its mostly for dogs.. . I hope you like it.

Just remember it's not the camera that takes the photos its the photographer. They both are good its going to come down to personal opinion and what one has what you need or want.

Both are good cameras and any real difference in image quality would be due the quality of the lenses used.

They both look good. I'd give the edge to the one that you like better.
