Canon PowerShot S5 IS or Sony DSC-H9?

I would like to buy a new digital camera, which one is better, Canon PowerShot S5 IS or Sony DSC-H9?

The previous sony ultra zooms where pretty good.- the H2 and H6. However, with these new H7/H9 models, they messed up the user interface big time. I haven't read a pro-review about the S5 IS yet, but I'd think that would be a safe bet. Canon's, while not always the most feature laden or innovative- are always solid choices. They're they Toyota of the camera world right now.

Check out the Panasonic FZ series cameras- they're pretty good as well- with excellent Leica lenses. Also, the Olympus SP550UZ is a neat camera. 18x zoom and some nifty features. Although, you do give up a bit on image quality in order to get that zoom range.

DEFINITELY the Canon S5 IS, a lot of my friends have the DSC-H9, and have had a lot of problems with it.

i would say Canon. I have S3 and it's a great camera.

My camera I wouldn't trade for any unless it was a digital slr.I own the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2. Gives me excellent 8X10s. 12X optical zoom, 6 megapixels, very good on AA rechargeables, comes with battery charger, and has image stabilizer. Has auto or manual controls.

I have a canonS3 IS im very happy with the camera very easy to use with exelent pictures. Also has good manual control if you feel adventrous. Also buy a very large memory card or make sure you have extra cards and set the camera to its highest quality settings. Extra batteries to keep you up and running
