Canon Powershot A550 vs. Fujifilm Finepix A820?

I recently bought two digital cameras that I intend to use this year for taking pictures for my schools newspaper. I'm currently not an experienced photographer, but I'm trying to pick the superior camera, that will also allow the potential for growth.

You want a camera with more manual modes to learn. These cameras don't offer full manual mode, or aperture and shutter priority modes. I recommend the Canon A630 if you want a relatively inexpensive camera that will allow you to develop your skills.

I have a Fuji Film A360, and I very rarely have troubles with it. It comes with software so that you can edit photos and such. There are many settings, and it knows when you use a flash. The shots are usually good and clear. The camera itself requires little maintenance. Remember to use rechargeable batteries, because either camera will eat up many batteries. (I used to go through a pack of 4 in a month.) I think the only difference between the camera you have listed and I have is that mine is smaller as far as pixels go. Canon Powershots, I have had trouble with the zoom and flashes. Many times the shutter would stick and it would need to be fixed. Hope this helps.
