A friend suggested me Canon EOS 350. Rs 50,000 is about $950... so you could get the Canon 400D (newer than the 350D) with the kit lens and a good memory card. That's well within budget. The 400D has more megapixels and more importantly, a better auto-focus system than the 350D.
Or you could save money on the body and get the 350D with the 18-55mm kit lens and a 55-200mm telezoom.
Other options are the Nikon D40 and the Pentax K100D, both with their own kit lens. The Pentax has built-in image stabilization.
All of these options are good choices. If you have the opprtunity to try them out in a camera store, let your personal preference decide. my suggestion
