Un-delete Files on SD Card?

I have a 1 gig SD card in a Canon digital camera, model S2 IS. It had lots of pics on it when I accidentally -formated- it, and I wonder if anyone knows a good program to get the pics off it. Freeware would be nice. (There are some video clips on it too).

Thanks in advance.

and

can both be used for free to recover photos.

Good luck!

And remember, always format your card in the camera, NOT in the PC.

Once you formatted over the card, there is a chance of recovering some of your files (photos or videos), although it is not guaranteed to recover everything. Most of the time, even with a format, these files are not completely deleted. Only with a true file shredder and format program can you achieve an almost blank slate (and these programs usually write over disks multiple times and in multiple ways so that nothing can be recovered). Anyways, these programs are called Data Recover programs, and I recommend being careful when looking for them on a search engine.

Be warned though: even recovered files may not be "whole" and may be corrupted.

Here are some to look at:

(No installation needed)

EDIT: I checked out a couple of data recovery programs, and Im starting to wonder if you need to download a specific one that handles images and videos. So while you are at it, it might be useful to find a data recovery program that specifically handles images.
Here is a list that might be helpful:

Yes, excellent program available from "lexar". It is called image rescue 2.
I have used it as a professional many times.
Well worth the price to "save" and maintain your card.

Please explain to us how you "accidentally" formatted your memory card.

I just checked all my digital cameras and in every case you have to not only choose the format option in the menu, you have to actually move the cursor down to format when the camera warns you that you are about to delete all your images. How it that done accidentally?

That said, yes, follow the advice of those who answered above me and you may be able to recover some of the images.

I wish I could help you, but on this one, I don't have a clue!
