Thanks You should keep all of your photos as large of a resolution as possible. You may want to blow them up to 8"X10" or larger some day. If you make the as "small as possible to burn onto a CD" then you can never make them big again.
Your photos are probably around 5-8 MB each.
You should be able to fit a couple of hundred photos per CD. If you can, buy a DVD burner and put photos onto a DVD which holds 5 times more info.

The higher the megapixal of a camera, the higher the quality the photos will be. I personally don't reccomend resizing your pictures since you're also lowering the quality of the photos. If you have office, you can resize them by using Picture Viewer and Manager to resize them, but only do this so you can e-mail several pictures to a friend or family member without sending a very large e-mail.
You can replace your CD burner with a DVD burner and be able to save everything to fewer disks than a regular CD burner. These only cost about $50 for a decent burner.
I also suggest to my clients to look into a USB hard drive. It simply plugs into the back of your computer with the existing USB ports (plugs), and you can backup all of your pictures and personal files. It's best to take this off-site and back backups regually. If something happens to your hard drive at home, either by physically failing or heaven forbid fire or flood, you won't loose your precious irreplaceable pictures. Before, pictures could be reprinted with negatives, but with the dawm of digital cameras, when the picture file is gone, so is the picture.
