Is it possible to join these cords?

I have a casio qv-770 digital camera and the cord to put the pics on the computer does not fit on my computer. Theres not a port for it. Its a newer computer. Is it possible to splice this cord with a usb cord so I can use my camera ? I dont want to try if its not gonna work. Any suggestions?

theres no memory card or nothing. just a standard usb port. it has a female port and i only have one on my computer and its for the monitor is it possible to add another one maybe? i spent alot of money on this camera dont want it to go to waste.

OK this is an older camera that downloaded via a serial port. I'll assume for the sake of my sanity that you are using Windows XP.

Right Click on "My Computer"
Choose Properties
In the new box, choose the Hardware Tab
Click on the "Device Manager" button
Look in the list for "Ports (Com & LPT)
Expand this out by clicking on the little plus symbol at the left of the words

Hopefully if you are lucky you will see an entry here that says "Communications Port (COM1)" If this entry appears, then youare in luck, your motherboard supports COM ports. ALl that needs to happen is to get the header cable and plug it into the motherboard inside the computer. Any computer store should be able to do this for you. If you know a nerd who has been into computers for a few years they may have the header and be able to give it to you.

If you don't have this entry, then you will need to buy a pci serial card. These are getting hard to buy now as this technology is pretty much obsolete. If this was the case I would start looking at newer cameras.

In the first link below, scroll down to the WR232Y13 entry to see the part you need. Failing this, you could take a chance on buying the first part shown on the second link to convert for you, but this doesn't always work.

Hope this helps.

I wouldn't reccomend it,

is it a USB A - USB B cord?

Standard USB cord

I1394 cord?

I don't think that splicing the cords will work. Is there any type if removable memory card for the camera? You may be able to find a memory card reader to get your shots onto your computer.

Not a good idea. A slight short in the leads and you could burn out the usb socket or your camara.

if you have a newer computer
there is more than one usb
check the front of the computer
maybe a door will lift or slide

yes you can add more usb ports very easily

yours is a very old camera. it uses an old fashioned 9 pin serial port. you may be able to put a serial to USB adaptor to plug into your computer, but your main problem will be software. your computer has no idea that what is on the other end of the serial port is a camera or what to do with it. there is a windows 98 program driver for this camera but it is not likely to work windows xp or vista.

Honestly. Truelly honestly. This problem should tell you that maybe you need a new camera. What you have is about 9 years old. Windows 98 was a big deal. Gas was somewhere around $1.50 a gallon. Life was worth seeing on this digital gem. But you could honestly get a new digital camera these days that has twice the resolution for around $40 for a good one.
