Whats the best digital camera for me? :-]?

i need a new digicam and finally have the money, the one i own now is a Sony Cybershot DSC-S90 4.1 megapixels. I hate this camera in amy ways - I can shoot video with it, but it sucks at night or in the dark. I take pictures all day but when it comes to night and my object is at least 20 feet away, it just doesn't get the image. I have 2 kids and love photgraphing them and my pets and sometimes nature, like flower close-ups and sometimes the occasional self-shot. I want something that will take crystal clear pictures, and print out just as clear. I was looking at a 10MP Casio Exilim, because of the price [it's cheap, but the ratings are good]. I don't really want to spend over $330 on it, but I have to rid myself of my current cam. Anyone wanna help?

another thing i must add. I took my kids to the holiday train that comes around every year at night, they stood by the train and i attempted to take a pic, didn't work! This group of people came walking by and asked me to take their pictures by the train, so I did standing in the same spot as i did before... theirs came out clear and lit up. You could see the whole pic - I didn't bother checking out what kinda cam they had though. I don't take many nighttime shots but i do want to attempt maybe a nighttime video when I go out with friends or something, and when the time comes I would like to get a good nighttime pic.

I would also recommend the Fujifilm Finepix F30. It takes very good photos...and it's THE best compact camera for low-light photography. No other compact camera can compete with it (as far as handheld, without flash & high ISO go)
It has 6MP, which is more than enough for most people, and has 3x optical zoom.
P.S. the F31fd, which is a slight upgrade to the F30...will be released very soon.

Another compact camera worth looking at is the...Canon SD700 IS, which has image stabilisation, and is probably the nearest rival for low light shooting (it performs excellently with outdoor photos too).

well, i actually went with the Nikon s7c, great camera! Report It

Don't get the Casio, if you think the Sony is bad, the Casio can be worse at night time.

When taking picture at night or in the dark, a lot of point and shoot compact cameras will fail to take clear picture. If the object is at least 20ft away, the flash will become useless. Turning the flash off may help but that will force the camera to open the shutter longer that means you have to use a tripod and the subject you are shooting will have to stay still.

If you do a lot of night time shooting. Look for a camera that have high ISO setting such as 800 and up. One camera I will recommend is the Fujifilm FinePix F30. Its fall within your budget and it is superb for night time shooting (with or without flash). Day time color is good too. Don't take my words for it, see if for yourself. These are the sample pictures taken by everyday people.
