Just bought a digital camera and have a potentially stupid question?

Do I have to install the software off the CD that they included? Because our CD drive doesn't work at all. I was just wondering if you HAVE to do this to be able to put pictures onto the computer or if there is a place on the internet where I can get the software. I don't know if this is prudent information or not, but the camera I got is the Casio Exilim...

NO YOUR PC WILL RECOGNISE YOUR CAMERA AS A REMOVABLE DRIVE OR MASS STORAGE DEVICE
JUST ACCESS IT AS YOU WOULD YOUR HARD DRIVE COPY OR CUT AND PASTE YOUR PHOTOS AS YOU WISH

Most new cameras a UMS compliant which allows yoru computer to recognize your camera and the card therin to be recognized as detachable storage, at that point it is simply a matter of drag and drop.

Not a stupid question at all! If you have a Mac, Windows 98se, XP, or Vista computer, the software to view your images and download them is already built into your computer system.

Just plug the camera into the USB port with the appropriate cable and turn the camera on.

Your computer should recognize it as a new device. Check "My computer".

I hope this is helpful for you.

That depends on your computer, and your camera.

The Exilims use a card to store images (I don't know if they have any kind of hard drive). Your computer may already have a card reader, and if not, you can buy an external USB card reader that your computer should not no problem seeing as an external drive.

That's how I download a lot of my pictures since connecting my camera to the computer is a pain. :)

All you need to do is see if your computer has a drive already for your memory card (it will be a small slot that has SD written by it, most likely). And if it doesn't, then you can just go to a local computer store, or drugstore around here, and buy a USB card reader. Mine was $10. I'll put a link below for you.

If you have a printer that lets you insert the memory card then you should be okay, if not then there may be a problem because the disc are for the computer to recognize the camera and they usually have additional features on them as well. So you can get around it if your printer is capable of reading the card, The only pain is removing it every time from the camera or you can take it to one of the photo centers.

In your manual should be contact information..web-site?, try that but the only down fall is there could be a down-load fee, not sure though. Or try an 800 # from the manual I know today they are included in just about every printed manual out there today.
