Okay, I have an almost brand new casio exilim digital camera... It's worked great for me untill a couple days ago. I plugged it into my computer (a mac powerbook g4) and the icon for iPhoto bounced twice, then my whole system locked up. Everytime i plug my camera in the system locks up no matter how many or little programs i have running. How can i fix it?! You might try messing with Image Capture. This is a program on your Mac that automatically moves the images from your camera into iPhoto.
Go to Applications>Image Capture>Preferences>General. The camera option should be set to iPhoto. If this isn't the issue, you can set this option to "No Application." This will disable the automatic download. It may allow you to download by dragging the images on the camera disk on your desktop to the iPhoto icon on your dock. It's not a fix, but may at least avoid the lockup. I don't know...but you ought to try a couple of things to see if the problem is in your computer or your camera. If you have access to another PowerBook, try plugging the camera into it and see if it recognizes it okay. If it does, I would guess the problem is with your computer.
I would also go to preferences/cds and dvds/"When you insert a picture CD"/tell it to 'ignore'. Then plug the camera in, like normal. You should have another hard disk icon on the desktop. Double click on it and click on the folders until you find the one with the pics in it. (Depending on your camera, you may need to go through 2 levels of folders.) Highlight the pics, and then you should be able to drag the whole group to the icon in the Dock for the program you want to open (iPhoto, for instance).
My guess is that you've got a camera problem and what I suggested won't work, but it's sure worth a try before you return the camera as defective!
Another thought...have you tried re-starting your computer? Sometimes that's all it takes to resolve an issue! |
