I need a good digital camera?

[i'm in high school] for my birthday, i'm asking for a digital camera and i was just wondering what kind would be good for me. most likely, i'm just gonna use it for taking pictures of me, friends, family, etc.
my friend has a casio exilim, and i was wondering if those are good quality?
thanks!

I've had success with both Olympus and Canon digital cameras. Been using a Canon Power Shot A610 (5 megapixels) for about a year now and it's been great.

anything Kodack

I personally like Canon's and have had 2 of them - one about $600 and the other about $100. They were both great. In fact I didnt see a whole lot of difference between them in regard to quality etc.
I found the more expensive one had heaps of functuions and buttons I never used.
I like them to be plain and simple, take short videos, make good quality pictures and be really easy to use.

I took a while looking at this site which gives reviews of digital cameras and it helped me decide.

I was thinking of recommending the Exilim, but it seems you already have seen them before. They are excellent quality and very reliable. Get one thats 6MP or more.

i agree with kodac check on ebay

Nikon, Kodak, Lumix, and Cannon are all decent brands. What is important are the features that will best suit how you plan to use the camera.
Since you want to use it while you are being active with friends I would highly recommend making sure whatever camera you choose has image stabalization and basic mode choices like "sports mode", "nighttime", "automatic exposure" modes.

Even though I personally own this ultra compact camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:

1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time;
2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. Takes "continuous" 2 frames per second "action/sports" images;
4. Has macro feature for close-ups of small objects focused under 6 inches;
5. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
6. It's very small and light;
7. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards - a 2 gig card sells for $19 at samys.com;
8. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;
9. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;
10. Has tripod mount on bottom of camera;
11. And the price is a mere $119 [sold at Samy's Camera - www.samys.com, and Staples.com.]

Review(s) can be found at www.amazon.com [Query: "Nikon Coolpix L10" along with pictures provided by satisfied purchasers.]

Good luck!

For different price ranges there are different cameras.

Around $100 there is the Nikon L10. An easy to use point-n-shoot that takes good pictures. The 5MP sensor is fine for 8x10 prints and it has a red-eye fix that works.
Great for the price.

The next step for significant advantages is around $250

At this range there is the Canon SD-1000. fast, good pictures, long battery life.

There is also the Nikon S-50 between $300-250, good pictures, compact, easy to use.

Also, the Casio cameras are also easy to use and take good pictures. Casio tends to focus there cameras for longer battery life and simple menu options. The Best-Shoot mode is a nice addition that makes the cameras simpler.

There are many cameras about and the best method to decide is to look at the cameras in person and feel them in your hands. Make sure the camera fits you. If it does not, then you will not have it with you when it is needed.

=)

get the CANNON ones those are really good

You're like most people not saying how much you're willing to spend; in this case how much you THINK they'll be spending on you. Must be a top CIA secret or something. It would help to narrow down the choices.
