Whats a good choice of digital camera?

Im going away for 12 months round the world and Im looking for digital camera to take with me that is fairly robust and also small/thin enough to store easily in my pocket so its not on display all the time.

Around the 拢200 mark.

Ive looked at a sony cybershot dsc-t10 and a casio exilim or something like that, are these any good?

Thanks

I have been looking at a panasonic DMC FX01, it has scored pretty well in lots of reviews. Is 3x optical zoom enough?

Between those two cameras, I would definitely choose the Sony DSC T10 over Casio, any day. Even though I prefer Canon.

Don't forget that you need to consider a few things, especially since you are travelling around the world.

First is Memory. You need to buy the Memorystick PRO duo if you buy the Sony...and if you also intend to shoot small movies on the camera (1.4MB per second of video), you need to think about how much memory you need. I would recommend at least 2 Memorysticks as a minimum. Check out the Sandisk Ultra II Memorystick PRO duo, which is faster than what Sony has to offer (see link below).

Next is Storage. You can easily shoot 10GB or more on a world holiday, so you need to consider where to store your photos. I would recommend a portable storage device, which are available in various capacities of 20-30GB or higher. Just make sure they accept Memorystick. You can then easily offload your photos to it regularly so you can re-use the Memorystick. I used the 30GB Digidock Photobank on my holiday overseas and it worked perfectly. (see link below).
Having your photos burnt to CD or DVD is another option.

Also consider battery life. Taking along a spare battery is a good idea, so you never have to worry about running out of power. Just charge the batteries each night, ready for the next day.

anyway, hope you have a great time!

We got a Canon Powershot A630 for my daughter's Christmas present. It has a lot of features and capabilities. One of the best is a LCD screen that rotates. Makes it easy to take pictures over a crowd of people or low to the ground. I have a Canon Powershot G6 for two years that has similar features to the above, and I've been very pleased. The A630 is about $300 US, and the G6 is about $600 US. Mine is moderately bulky, but the A630 is easier to carry in a pocket.

My wife has a Nikon Coolpix L2 that is really great if you want a small camera that easily fits in your pocket. Not as much capability as the above ones, though. It does take great pictures.

A good website for camera reviews and information is http://www.steves-digicams.com/

the answer to your question lies with the which magazine as they have tried and tested every thing from false teeth to match sticks type in which magazine on the net

the canon eos always does well in reviews.

i think the best camera review site is dpdigital.com or something like that

Nikon Coolpix P3 is a good all-round digital camera

go to yahoo shopping

You would probably be wise to look at the Fuji F31d.

It's got a cracking sensor esp for low light conditions.

Steve's Digicams says of it's predecessor (without the face recognition technology):

"Bottom line - The FujiFilm Finepix F30 is an awesome digital package. With its unmatched ISO capabilities, great image quality, robust performance, durable metal body, and loads of useful exposure modes, the F30 is tuff to beat in the 6-megapixel category"
See here http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_revi...

DPReview says:

"To sum up, the F30 is far and away the best low light compact camera on the market today, bar none. It's the perfect 'social' camera for the DSLR owner who doesn't want to lug all his or her gear to parties, and it is - in expert hands - capable of superb results in any light. I would even go as far as to suggest - funds permitting - getting one for low light work even if you already own a camera you use for daylight shooting... So then, Highly Recommended unless you rarely shoot indoors or at night."

They currently going for about 拢190-拢210 see http://www.camchooser.com/Fuji-Finepix-F... for further details.

Hope this helps and happy travelling!
