Should I get the 7.2 or 8.1 megapixel camera?

Im trying to make up my mind between a 7.2 casio digital camera ($149.00) vs a 8.1 casio digital camera($219.00) both are the same style, and only difference is the megapixels. My wife will be taking pictures and making maybe printouts of about 8 or 10 inches wide max, what do you recommend?

It will not matter. Pixel count is only half the equation. The other half is the size of the sensor.

You will see no difference in images from either one .. even when printed to 11x14 inches

You will see that the Z77 actually has a more powerful flash.

My vote goes for that one

8.1 This means it has 8.1 million pixels per inch compared to 7.2 million. It gives the image better quality especially when it needs to be blown up to 8x10 proportions.
Get the higher megapixel content because in the next 6 months or so, 9 or 10 will be the norm. At least your 8.1 will still have a fighting chance.

If U do not know the difference do not buy the more expensive camera. The number of pixels will mean absolutely nothing to you! Go to a camera shop. Do NOT buy from a large retailer because there is NO ONE there to tell you what you need. I need night shot, for instance.

A person at the camera shop can explain what you need to know and how to operate the camera. Most shops have free seminars (if you buy from them) .

The manufacturers, for instance, seem to be completely insane! They make these stupid little shiny things that ignorant people buy for cuteness. Slippery, too small, many do not even have a cord to hang around your wrist. Tiny little writing and unintelligible instructions and icons.

Best Buy has a bitchen charge back if you return the camera. By the way, you CANNOT get the feel of a camera if it has an anti - theft cable on it! Do not buy from a mega store. Do you hear me WAL_MART? COSTCO?

Cameras are reliable and I have never read from PC Magazine or any photo magazine a recommendation to buy extended warranty.

Do buy a camera that features a wide angle lens. This is the handiest feature that one needs without realizing it. Canon usually features a pretty wide angle in basic models.Good luck!

Another little tip ---- If you are left handed be double darn sure that you try it out a lot before buying. And not when a security cable is on it! If you are a serious about being a good photog buy some 3-M super sticky, all weather velcro strips and attach them to the sides of the camera so that your fingers do not slip when setting up and taking photos. You must slice the velcro strips to the proper width.

Save your money buy the cheaper Casio, there will be no noticeable difference with the picture quality between 7.2 & 8.1.

The 7.2 meg camera shoud be just fine . I don`t think you will notice any difference in prints up to 8x10 .
