What is the difference between 7.2 and 10.1 megapixel cameras?

I have been comtemplating between the Casio Exilim 7.2 & 10.1 and do not see much of a difference but the megapixels and price. I hear the difference is only noticeable when enlarging pics, is that the only time?

2.9

Unless you plan to print really large posters, a 6 m/p will do the job. As tech. progresses, more m/p's get in the market and the bigger ones just cost more. An example would be to look at a print made with a 6 m/p camera and the same subject using that 10.1 camera. On a 4x6 print you won't be able to see the difference with a magnifying glass. If you could get a 50 m/p system, it still couldn't rival a quality 35mm film, much less a larger film format.
But then we are spoiled---there is no CD codex yet that can compare to vinal recorded music or high speed tape (7.5 or 15 " per sec.). One more edit and then I promise to quit. Remember, the more m/p's used to take the picture, the bigger the file!!!

The difference is little more than marketing hype.

According to the "Megapixel Myth" ( http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.h... ), prints from a 3MP camera look the same as those from a 6MP camera, even when blown up to 12x18".

This article continues, "Small differences in pixel count, between say 5 MP and 8MP, are unimportant because pixel counts are a square function. It's exactly like calculating area or square footage. It only takes a 40% increase in linear dimensions to double the pixel count! Doubling pixel count only increases the real, linear resolution by 40%, which is pretty much invisible."

Personally, I used to own a 3MP camera and was able to print a 16x20" from it that looked nice and sharp. So unless you're printing billboard ad's, 3 MP should do you fine.

In fact, excessive MP can slow down the processing speed of a camera, resulting in slower shutter speed and blurrier pictures. Surely not what you want!

Also, speed is indicated by ISO (seek anything above 1600), not MP (which is just resolution).

I mean, if a camera has a bad lens and a slow processor, 10 MP is just ten million dots of crap.

So, get the camera that feels better in your hands. Ease of use will influence your picture quality much more than MP!

yea i heard thats the only difference! but who knows until u actually use it!

The image created by the 10.1 megapixel will be a lot larger than the one with 7.2 xD

2.9 megapixels.

Edit:
Dammit midknight beat me to it! :)

the bare eye cannot distinguish the difference between a normal size photo taken by 7 or 10 mp's.the difference appears just when you print large large posters. for normal use a 5-6 mp camera will do the job well.
