Where to buy a camera? (Online v.s. in store)?

I'm looking forward to buying my new camera because one of my friends mishandled my old Casio one. Now, as i look through the prices, the one that I set my eyes on is at 350 retail, but about 315 with a coupon for 10% (prices taken from circuitcity). The online shops, obviously cheaper, have it as low at 250. What are the takes of people buying ONLINE v.s. IN-STORE? (Customer service, warranties, etc.)

On-line is obviously cheaper and as long as you stick to reputable vendors (for camera gear those include B&H, BeachCamera, Adorama, Amazon, and RitzCamera) the warranty & return policy will be identical.
Mind you, there are specialty shops and mom & pop shops where I don't mind paying extra just to help keep them in business. You know, if you want a shop to still be around in 5 years do your part. And a specialized camera shop will provide better service: the staff can explain stuff, they'll let you toy around with the gear, they'll provide tips, etc.
As for Circuit City, if you decide to bypass the local shop, I'd go straight for the internet deal. To me Circuit City is just another department store. No love lost.
For the price difference you mentioned - $350 vs. $250 - I'd go with the internet store. Be careful though; this deal might be too good to be true. If you don't know whether this internet vendor is 100% legit, do a quick background check here

Don't give out your credit card information unless both of those sites give the store a thumbs up.

It is important that you check the warranty info for the specific camera manufacturer. Some companies specifically require you buy their product from an authorized retailer in order for the warranty to be valid. IE. I bought a pair of Nike golf shoes online and the warranty was void because the site was not an authorized retailer. Usually you will get a better price online as you have already stated, but you need to check the warranty then decide if a warranty is worth the extra money to you.

I've found for a lot of bigger purchases online is nice because often times they'll give you free shipping. I've never had trouble with things not arriving, or arriving damaged. Customer service is a little hard to gauge, in my experience big box stores have rather terrible customer service, but at least you'd be talking face to face with somebody, rather than e-mailing or trying to navigate some horrible phone tree. As far as warranties go, it's much easier to drive to the store and have them take care of it than to box it up and ship it away yourself.

I like online stores myself, but that's mostly because I do all my shopping after midnight :)

Store, because you can see and touch the camera, the seller will explain to you all the features. and i think warranties is a lost of money. hope i helped./

To me, it;s the same, just go out and shop to see, feel, and experience the camera before you do go online to purchase one.

B&H and or Adorma have the best prices on line. I would trust Ritz but they are a little more expensive but great for smaller accories like cards and film. I use B&H for large purchaces.

at a camera store.
