What should I expect at the airport when I move to Egypt from America? |
I am an American woman who is moving to Egypt to be with a muslim man and live my life with him. I have done some research on the net about the customs and such and have talked to my fiance about what to wear and so on. My question is, I have never been out of the U.S. before and don't know what to expect at the airport when I get to Cairo. How many suitcases am I allowed to bring (i'm only bringing my clothes, my laptop, cellphone, and digital camera, and my portable dvd player)? And I read you have to 'declare' stuff...what does this exactly mean? I will be shipping my books and dvd movies to where I will be living...is mailing them bookrate the cheapest? I will be leaving in 5 weeks so any help would be very much appreciated. The airport may be crowded when you come just take it easy you'll find the way to stamp the passport. It's better if you already have the visa ready before you come. Otherwise you will take your turn and pay 15 U$D if the price is still the same. The airport in Cairo is a mad house! You need to get a visa here first or you can get one when you land there but I wouldn't recommend it. You will have to wait in a VERY long line. As for declarations, you don't have to worry too much about that, it is only if you are brining food or a large quantity into the country. Re-read the customs page to see what is not allowed. Usually large sums of money and food needs to be declared. I loved visiting Egypt but I wouldn't want to live there so I wish you luck! Chaos. If you've never been outside the US before and your going to Cairo, all i can say is hold your breath, the airport is a bit crazy and you should only need to declare if your bringing in excess if you want any information , please do not afraid to email me , if you do not wish , just do not hesitate , behave as if you know every thing , do not accept any help there as it is not free , try to contact the people whom you are going to be with to wait for you , the air port may be crowded but it is not a rule , the more careful about your small valuables , the better . I do not what is "declare " but you may be asked what you have in luggage , just be at your ease and nothing will go wrong , best wishes and I hope you nice stay and good work. Your right with the "declaration" thing. They have just added this thing lately. I read about it in the newspapers a few days ago. Ok found the other Question e-mail myegypttours@yahoo.co.uk well i did the same thing, i came to egypt to spend the rest of my life |
