Wedding Pictures?

I have a friend who I feel would do a nice job with photographing our wedding, but he just has a regular digital camera.... does anyone have any experience or suggestions on how the pictures may come out?

We have a low budget for the wedding so cutting costs is great, but pictures are one thing I don't want to be too cheap on.

I would make sure to have more than one photographer if you decide to use a friend.

When a friend of mine got married, she couldn't afford a big wedding. She got married in a neighbor's beautiful backyard. The neighbor took pictures, but the film was bad. She managed to salvage one picture. Noone else took pictures. So, I recommend that more than one person take pictures.

If it's an outside wedding, the pictures will be okay.

When it comes to pictures I think this is the one place where you should spend your money. Shop around, there are alot of photographers that hire by the hour and as a part of the package you get the hard proofs as well as the copyright ownership so you can print them out yourself. Its when you get into putting togther a professional album where the money comes in. In my personal opinion the photgraphy isnt the place to cut corners because you cant replace those pictures. You would feel terribly if they didnt come out and so would your friend.

Hire a professional

I believe that you should absolutely have more than one person taking pics but....you could check into the cost of disposables for your guests to use for taking candid shots throughout the event. That way you get your "pro" shots and some fun ones as well. Also, if your buddy knows his camera well(how it works, settings, etc.) there is no reason why his pics shouldn't turn out great! Good Luck and God Bless!

I personally would spend what you have to in order to get the pictures you want. I went for the cheaper option and hired someone with a digital camera. The quality of the pictures is great (they are very clear and bright)... but she did a horrible job at the posing and getting the right angle. So I would say it's not really the digital camera that might be a problem, but just if the person knows how to take good wedding pictures. I wish everyday that I would have paid more for someone that knew what they were doing. Wedding pictures aren't like taking normal pictures at all... it definitely takes a lot of creativity and practice to get the right look. I'd think about it real hard... to me it would be worth the extra money.

I say go for it!!! The bonus with having a friend do it is one they have your interests at heart for one it's not to pad their pockets, two-- with a digital camera you can view the pictures right then and there, if you don't like them you can redo them--when you go pro you have to wait till you get the proofs back, with it being a friend this can be their gift to you. My friend did this and her photos turned out fantastic!! You can then take the memory card to a place like Wal-Mart and get the prints you want and only the ones you want, you can blow them up add borders, etc.

I had a friend taking pictures at our wedding, but she is a professional photographer and used a professional digital camera, with all the extra lenses and filters. I got lucky... I would make sure you had pictures... go with a professional.

honestly, spend the money on a photographer. i'm sure your friend would be great.....but in for some reason your pictures dont turn out just the way you want, trust me your heart will be broken. because in a wedding, there are no redos or second chances to get your first kiss as husband and wife on film. plus this way your friend can have a great time at the wedding too!!

GET MANY PEOPLE TO TAKE INFORMAL SURPRISE PICS OF GUESTS HAVING FUN IT WILL BE A VERY NATURAL REMINDER OF YOUR BEAUTIFUL DAY & YOU WILL BE ASSURED SOME DECENT PICS AT LEAST .. YOU CAN BUY THOSE ALL IN ONE WEDDING CAMERAS

i had a budget to i bought some disposable cameras of eBay and put them on the tables and got anyone to take the pictures some didn't turn out to bad because i didn't have enough money for the pro to do it.

I offered to video a friend's wedding and left the microphone at home only to realize it the next day. Arggh! Imagine if the friend's batteries ran out, or if they forgot the camera, or whatever. Hire it out!

Find someone with a nice film camera to take pictures too. I had my dad with a digital and a film camera, camera's set on each table for the guests to use, and my friends dad and mom with their digital camera's. We ended up with a lot of wonderful pictures, and great candid's that you usually don't get with a wedding photographer.

Have some back up camera's, and find some other people who are willing to take pictures.

you could get disposable camera's for each table and a poem attached.
