Where can i find a great professional digital camera for my girlfriend and not spend over 500 dollars?

not trying to be cheap or anything but shes just getting started and i want to help her break into it.

When you are looking for a professional digital camera, there are about four things that set them apart from pro-look-a-likes. First they have the ability to accept interchangeable lenses made by either Canon or Nikon. Second they use CompactFlash cards (CF), third 6 megapixel or greater sensor and and fourth they are very sturdy and can take a lot of punishment in the field. There are other features that may come in handy as a pro, like WiFi options, battery pack options, and other goodies, but I am sure she can wait for those on the next camera body she purchases.

For under $500 you may be able to get a used Canon Rebel or Nikon D100 body, but then you need to get her a lens unless she has some Canon or Nikon glass laying around.

For your budget, you are looking at second hand DSLR's. You may consider a Nikon D70 or a D70s. There's also a Nikon D50.

Please consider a D50 with a 28-70 lens. I bought mine at a online auction house for $472.
