Has anyone purchased a digital camera in beijing and was it worth it?

If I want to purchase a Japanese or Chinese made camera in Beiging can it be trusted for a name brand or is Sams or WalMart just as cheap?

I think it'd be cheaper than how much you buy it in the US. Almost everything in China is cheaper than in the US.

Basically, those are non-taxed items, the prices are not bad at all. Where do you think Sam's (Walmart) get the cameras from?

It depends on the brand of the camera and where its manufactured.

if the style you want was manufactured outside China, you would pay less in USA for the camera than in China. The reason for that is China has a high import tax on electronics.

and be careful of buying a fake camera in beijing , anything can be fake. even sony, nikon and such

and also be aware of the warranty. that is very important as the camera will be with you for another few years minimum, and a domestic warranty within your country would be much better and safer for you.

I would advise you buying expensive items close to your own home. even if it cost a bit more, its worth it.

If you buy a non-Chinese brand the price will be just about the same as in teh US.

If you buy a Chinese brand it will be much cheaper but the quality will suck.
