What price would you be expected to pay for a good quality digital camera in Thailand?

Heading there in 2weeks from Ireland, wondering is it cheaper to buy my camera over there.

Prices in Thailand for name brand digital cameras like Canon, Sony etc are not much different from the UK. I live in Bangkok and have a friend visiting at the moment - he bought a Canon IXUS 60 and it was pretty much the same price as on Amazon.co.uk

You do get a Tax Refund of 7 per cent if you buy at certain outlets - look for the sign - so that can be 15 quid or so cashback. But your warranty won't cover you in the UK/Ireland I don't think - so if it breaks, you could be stuffed.

Singapore is definitely much cheaper for electronics, both compared to the UK and Thailand

Bottom line - might as well buy it in the UK so you get some time to play with it and are covered if its defective.

My camera broke while I was over there so I had to buy another one. And I found that prices were the same if not higher than buying them in the states. For as cheap as most things are in Thailand electronics are not among them.

The cheapest price for a new digital camera right now is about 4500 baht or $120 dollors, very basic but good, of course this goes up and up a good one would cost about 10000 baht or $265 dollors.

Many many shops, able to bargain the price and the most important : it's cheap!!

Around 30,000 to 40,000 baht which would be around 1000 to 1500 $ It also depends where you buy it. If you look around in different places you can get a good price for stuff but beware of fakes, they're all over the place. Pantip Plaza is the place that Thai people don't even go if they want quality cuz it's not real stuff.
