My polaroid was a cheap 80 dollar digital,
and it sais its memory can be expanded to 1 GB if i buy a memory chip.
At the circuit city near me, the polaroid 1 GB chips are 40 dollars, but the sony 1 GB chips are only 20 dollars.
they both look the same, so why should i spend more for the same thing? the difference in price is due to the difference in read/write speed.
these speeds are gauged in a number like "20x". these speeds can go up to "150x". these high speeds only make a difference in writing speed to the card, so don't expect anything amazing from a more expensive card.
since you bought a realitively cheap camera, the sony should be great, the polaroid would be overkill - but would be compatable too. If the type of flash memory required is the one you have, yes. ~
Also, check prices for memory at http://www.pricewatch.com Wow! I didn't know Polaroid made memory cards or that they gouged the consumer pricewise just for the 'polaroid' name on it.
OK, first of all, if you've seen a Sony-branded card, it's definitely not going to be compatible with your Polaroid. The reason for this is that Sony makes proprietary-format cards that actually only fit and work in their own line of p&s digicams. They call it 'Memory Stick' (MS).
Secondly, unless your Polaroid is ancient, it almost definitely uses 'Secure Digital' cards (SD)... that's the type of card you need to find for your camera, and it doesn't have to be a 'Polaroid' branded card. In fact, the best memory cards are made by names such as 'Lexar', Kingston', 'Sandisk', 'Crucial'... and they should be less expensive than Sony OR Polaroid cards too.
Find a 1gb SD card from one of the reputable brands mentioned above and you're set! If you really need to make sure that your camera uses SD cards, check your manual for any info that tells you the card format that the camera supports, or find your model specifications at the polaroid.com website.
Whatever you do, do NOT buy any Sony memory card. It's not compatible, guaranteed!
One more thing, as Jacob S correctly pointed out above, you may find, for example, a 1gb Lexar SD 80x at a certain price, and a 1gb Lexar SD 150x at a higher price. Either card will work on your camera but as it is a cheap p&s model, the faster card (150x) won't make any performance difference in your cam. Go with the slower version and save some cash. |
