Is it cheaper to buy a digital camera in Shenzhen China, or Hong Kong?

Neither. Try ebay or buy one in your own country. China is great for shopping, but its a common misconception that electronics, especially digital cameras, are cheaper here.

I really want to buy the new Olympus SP550, and I even have a friend who is the manager of a large electronics department store, who gets me great deals. But, even she can not compete with ebay or prices from Canada. Supposedly the taxes on legitmate electronics are too high. If you find a great price on a digital camera in China, it's probably too good to be true, so be careful.

Also, memory cards, batteries, and other accesories are cheaper outside of China as well.

china. the product is more produced than in hong kong. even though hong kong is a part of china, its economy is very business oriented, so most goods will be priced higher.

Shenzen definitely, but check the quality of the picture before buying.

Even if u buy there, u may not be able to use it to upload onto your computer. I bought my mobile phone there and my computer does not recognise it. As a result, i cannot download songs into my phone.

its probably cheaper to buy a camera in shenzhen but then it might horrible quality and there might not be a warranty. so you might watn to buy it in hong kong.

I'm from Hong Kong and I would NEVER buy anything electronic from Shenzhen. There are thousands of complaints every year about faulty goods, or cases where after you pay they say they're out of stock and make you pay extra for another product. I would definitely buy from a reputable shop in Hong Kong, and the price is pretty much the same. The cameras in Hong Kong are quite cheap.

- Shenzhen is cheaper if you want to buy digital camera that is made in China with a China brand. (The quality could be ... )
- Hong Kong is cheaper if you want to buy any named brand or items made in Europe, Japan or USA.

- USA could be cheaper for digital products with a named brand.

(I bought a new model Casino digital camera last Oct in New York. I have it travel with me to Hong Kong and China. I looked at the price from magazine in China. It costs more than US. China does not even have this model yet.)

In acturally fact. most of digital cameras around the world are made in China, wherever u buy, it 's more likely from China.
of cousre Shenzhen has its more price advantage in very way than that of HK. to be saving the money, u'd better buy urs in shenzhen.

I live in HK and definitely will buy digital cameras and accessories from here. Much more reliable quality and better prices. Try Sai Yeung Choi Street in Mong Kok area,where there are heaps of electronics stores to choose. For camera equipment I usually buy from Wing Shing Photo Supplies, 57 Sai Yeung Choi St.

I highly recommend you to buy a digital camera in Hong Kong. You can go to Mong Kok instead of Tsim Sha Tsui. There are many shops selling digtal camera in Mong Kok. Prices are reasonable with good quality. Actually, many Chinese tourists from mainland China also buy digital cameras in Hong Kong.
