Was I am on wrong path to presume them as Cheats?

Beware of roadside crooks that pose as salesperson (What if the item is stolen one?)

Beware of their Trap!

Today (11-06-08) morning around 11.00 am I just came out of Qutab Plaza, Dlf P-1, Gurgaon and was going towards my car when suddenly I found my self surrounded by three fellows, whole of their conversation was as per follow (But mainly it was for me as their targeted Customer)

Fellow Behind Me: Hey are you the same fellows who were trying to sell your Sony Handy-cam to that shopkeeper? No problem I am ready to buy for 7,000/-, see I am ready to pay you cash & see this cash in my hand.

Two Fellows who were in front of me: (One fellow carrying some thing wrapped in newspaper giving impression that he is caring the camera itself)
No, No, we can鈥檛 give you the camera that is costing us almost for Rs 35,000/-

Now all these Three fellows wants me to trap and likes me to bargain for the camera and when I ignored to communicate with them, these fellows who were in front of me started to communicating with me by asking for some address, which they are searching for!

I still ignored them and just told them that I know their whole plan or what drama they are creating on the road, so leave me alone & I am not Interested in their Handy-cam etc.

Now, I would like to ask the readers of this Blog is:

Was I am on wrong path to presume them as Cheats? (I don鈥檛 think it so because this type of incident happened with me twice before during the gap of last one year or so)

Leave me alone, is it worth for any one else to bargain the camera and buy the same for Rs 2000/- / 3,000/-?

And what about if the Handy-cam they are selling cheap is STOLEN one?

And say you have purchased the Handy-cam very cheap & drive away happily with your bargain item, but what if the fellows who have sold the camera has noted down Regd # of your car & once these fellows who have sold the stolen camera came into the trap of police then they will surely bring the Police to your doorstep also! Is this all possible or not?

Has any one else other them me came across with same type of incident? (Please tell others so they will be careful in future)

Yeah, you are right in thinking that they are con men trying to cheat you. Depending on what kind of scam they are running different things can happen. They could trick you to show that you have money on you and rob you. They could trick you into giving them money without you getting anything for it. (They have to go and get it and never come back as an example.) They could sell it to you and then follow you to steal it back later on so that they can sell it again. They could use the fact that you bought something illegal to blackmail you and ask for more money. And finally, yes it's very possible that they let the police know who you are in one way or the other if they are caught.

In cases like this it's better to be safe than sorry.

It's been a while since I saw scams like that around here, but we have many telephone scams going on right now. They call saying that they are from a company that will sell exclusive things to private persons for a good price, cutting away the middle hands makes it cheaper they claim. They want to know when you are at home so that they can come and show you the goods. In reality they are making sure that they know when you are Not at home so that they can burglarize your home without getting caught.
