Do you enjoy being a zoologist? |
what is it that you do?? how long didi it take you to get to where you are? describe an average day on the job. describe an above average day on the job. do you have any other degrees? If you had to pick another major or job which would you pick? The reason I ask is because I my self am in college, and i am having trouble deciding on what to study. I want to do something that I have loved since I was a child, and something that makes a difference; so I want to go for a specialization in biology(for sure an animal science). I also want to take some photography classes as I would like to become a part time, I you will, wild life photographer. Is that a good idea? Thank you for any help. It is hell for me to pick something to study. I majored in zoology and earned my degree and now work as a wildlife biologist. I specialize in ornithology and mainly study endangered bird species. I also do some herpetology work, bat work, endangered fish work, and invasive plant removal work. I am a "field" biologist meaning I spend most of my days outdoors doing bird surveys, bat surveys, trapping reptiles and amphibians, and finding and monitoring birds nests. We also monitor the removal of invasive plant species. I have also worked in a couple zoos where I mainly prepared animals diets, fed animals, cleaned up after animals, educated the public about the animals, and kept notes on behavioral observations. After graduating I did a lot of seasonal work to gain experience to get a full time job. I have studied birds in 16 states and 2 countries. I finally settled down to a permanent full time position after doing seasonal work for 7 years. I highly suggest you getting some "hands-on" work while still in school..this will help you a lot when it comes time to finding a full time job.
