I have a question about parental pride.? |
My daughter recently won a local photo contest and as the winner she was chosen as the new model for a local photographer to use in ads and on her sight. I feel slightly guilty for being so proud. I've always thought my daughter was gorgeous and it's just nice to know someone agrees with me so much. The contest was judged by other professional photographers so it's not like your friends can vote. My husband thinks I'm being to prideful. Is he right? Could I be spoiling my child by being so proud of her and not even know it? Her pics are at: http://abeautifullight.blogspot.com/2007... and http://bp2.blogger.com/_kkehdyz4q5o/rudp... She's in the card on the top. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks. you should feel a sense of pride because they are lovely photos of your daughter! dont' feel guilty its only the natural response for your daughters' sake. try to put it into perspective as pride can become too boastful quite easily. She has the most gorgeous eyes! You can never stop being proud of your child, she worked hard at something, and she achieved it. You should be proud, your child winning something like that at that age. No way are you being prideful. You are being a glowing parent. If you were throwing it in someones face thaat their kid didn't make it that would be a different story. Congratulations to you! It's ok to be proud of her, but remember as she grows up to be proud of her for reasons that don't have to do with her looks. Always try to find character-related qualities to complement your children on, the world will take care of telling them whether they're beautiful or not. Also, just a side note, but be REALLY careful about having pics of your children on the internet. your daughter is really pretty...n no i would be proud too I think it is great that you are proud of her. What you don't want to do is gloat. You need to make sure you keep your daughter grounded. When she gets the idea that she is better than others, it will all be downhill from there. It will affect her friendships with other children and may damage her future in the "modeling" industry. I have been a singer since I was five and I have seen too many mothers send their beautiful and talented daughters down the wrong road by being overly proud. Make sure she carries herself with confidence. She is a VERY beautiful little girl. As a mother, it must feel great to have your opinions vindicated by professionals. Congratulations and Best of Luck. honey you sould be shes beautiful |
