Do photographers buy their children's mediocre school pictures? |
just wondering I happen to be a pro photographer and yes, I too have been suckered into buying those school pix!! LOL Actually, I bought the smallest package for each of my kids the first year they were in school. But since then I don't purchase them anymore. I will keep the proof they send home and put it in the scrap book. No, I don't copy the proof. That is against copywriting laws. I only keep it in the scrapbook along with the bajillions of pix I take of them myself. Actually, I have had to hire another photographer to get a nice group pic of them because up until recently, they would not pose for me. LOL I can't get it. Lol I love this question! doubt it! Imagine how many familys have those awful school photos on their wall. They should be banned.Bring your children to a good photographer and you'll get a present you'll cherish all your life. I never did and my kids were always quick to point out the crappy equipment the visiting photographers brought with them. But were talking apples and oranges here. school photographers tend to be some part timer who the company gave a week long training course too then sent them out to take pictures. If you ever want to know if your dealing with a real pro or not ask them this simple question. "Do you bracket your exposures"? If they reply with something like "Sure one stop to either side"! then they knows what their doing...if the give you that blank, blink , blink ..look well there just another part timer who never learned the craft Of course they do. Because usually the picts have a meaning to the children. They mark a special time in their life. Later they connect this time with these picts--together with their yearbook picts. Yes, I have to agree with everyone on this. But I did buy at least 324 school packages over the years. The kids WANT you to buy them, at least before they're about 10 years old. Not all families can afford pictures, so the schools usually take the lower bid. It's all about growing up and having a good laugh later down the road. I bought the smallest package and then had professional portraits done twice a year. Capture the moment with a beautiful portrait. You will never get that time again. |
