How do I take pictures of children? |
I love children, I worked in a daycare center for many years. Children are so full of innocence and photograph well. I am not a professional photographer, but I like to take children's photo's. With things being the way they are today...I am afraid it could offend some parents. Is it ok to take pictures of children playing in a shopping mall or should I ask permission? Don't you love pictures of children playing, or thinking? Always ask permission.....I would be completely creeped out and upset if someone was taking pics of my kids that I didn't know! Ask permission first from their parents etc. No i don't love kids playing. you should always ask permission if you want to take pictures of people, however if you were to take a picture of something in a background setting and there are children in the foreground then i think that would be ok I like taking childrens pictures.. I find the best way is when no one is looking, you open the albums very quietly, and as fast as possible snag the pictures, stuff them in your shirt pocket ( so you dont crush them when you sit down) and run away fast. Voila! Your very own kid pictures :D You should always ask for permission first. Sadly, the world is a scary place and people might get the wrong ideas. Yes, children are a great subject to photograph. Unfortunately, it is the times we live in where suspicions have over taken the freedom photographers used to enjoy freely. You won't be abllowed to take pictures in shopping malls anyway because it is NOT a public place. Likely you will be asked by security to refrain or leave the place. If you DO take photos in a public place - BE PREPARED to get questioned, and at worst - vebally abused. Be prepared to answer questions as to what you are doing. Be PREPARED to answer them in a calm and factual manner. DO NOT get into an argument or become indignant. Parents have the right to ask to see the photos you took of their child and have the right to ask you to delete them. DON'T hang around playgrounds. This is NOT a good idea. Take photos at places where YOU are also naturally participating - festivals, sporting event (football match perhaps), community fairs, local events. EVEN IF you are totally innocent with you photography, by concentrating on children only - you WILL put yourself in a very awkward position. I suggets you DON'T do this. Take photos of PEOPLE - faces with emotion make great photos - as suggested earlier - sporting events, fairs and festivals, etc. Be willing to initiate the contact. Go up to the parents and show them what you did and may be even tell them that you are happy to send them copies. This will break down the suspicions. Read up on this subject about privacy laws and what is your local stance on photgraphing in a public place. There are magazines, websites you can go to for such information. Talk to your local professional photographers and hear what they have to say on the subject. An amateur photgrapher who knows EXACTLY what you are asking. |
