Child Psychology?

I am a senior in high school and and going to participate in this 4 week program in April and May called senior project where students "explore a career" instead of going to school.

In the past, people have done things like gone to kindergarten classes and taught a couple of lessons, worked at a hospital, worked in bakeries, and worked with professional photographers and got to shoot their own pictures with the direction of the professionals. Neither the student or their community sponsor get paid.

I am extremely interested in child psychology and have a lot of experience working with children. Would it be possible to do a project working under a child psychologist? I really want to do hands-on stuff (I went to a child psychology place today for an interview and they basically told me all I would do was clean up stuff and file papers. I'm not sure if they didn't understand what senior project was or if I just wouldn't be able to interact with the children under any condition)

If I an unable to find a child psychology place that lets me interact with the kids and psychologists more, I will probably try pediatrics or teaching but I really want to do child psychology.

You might want to try looking into a children's rebabilitation place-- in central ohio we have places like the Buckeye Ranch where kids can go and do equine rehabilitation, or even Maryhaven, where kids also can receive rehabilitation. Obviously, chances are you don't live near central Ohio, therefore you should try to look for something similar. These places often employ counselors and psychologists alike, and obviously they are children-oriented areas!
