Head shot and resume?

hey! i am trying out for the sound of music at a children's theatre on tuesday and i need a head shot. i don't think my mom would take me to a professional photographer but i haven't asked so maybe.. but i can print photos from my camera with my printer so is it really unprofessional to just print a head shot from my computer and attach it to my resume? or do i need a real head shot? o and i am singing reflection from mulan for my audition. and if you have any tips for auditioning please let me know... thank you soooooo much!!!

I think printing a headshot should be fine for this audition. I know a lot of actors who do that. I would suggest printing it on high-quality glossy photo quality paper, though. The photo will be 8X10, so make sure you cut your resume down to size when you attach it.

As for audition tips - Just go in feeling really prepared with your song. Practice it until you're comfortable and confident with it before the audition. Then, when you get there, don't change anything. Don't second guess the choices you've made.

As actors, we tend to be our own worst enemies at auditions. We let out minds wander and compare ourselves with the other people there to audition. We wonder what the auditors want. We wonder if we picked the right piece. We wonder if we're good enough. And so forth and so on. These are the thoughts that make us nervous and throw us off. Force yourself to stay focused. Talk to yourself in your head and remind yourself that you're prepared and you know your song and you're just fine. You have no way of knowing what the director is looking for - so there's no point in trying to guess.

Remember, the auditors want you to do well. They really are rooting for you. And even if you're not cast - it doesn't mean you didn't do a good job or that you're not talented. Sometimes they just cast in a different direction - or you just don't fit any of the characters in this particular production. Don't put too much importance on any one audition. There will be others.

I've gotten to sit behind the table at an audition - and the BEST actor to audition didn't get cast. Not because he wasn't good, obviously - but because he didn't fit any of the characters. So don't let a rejection bother you or make you stop trying. There will always be other auditions - and perhaps something better is just around the corner.

All you can really do as an actor is do your best. Stay focused and be confident. Don't change a thing.

When you audition, just keep really focused and try not to get yourself really worked up if your nervous, just concentrate and do your best. If you don't get the part, i'm sure there will be other auditions for you to do.
