I want to become a model. What do I have to do? |
I'm 15, 112 pounds, and about 5'6". I have blonde hair, green eyes, and nice teeth. I don't really want to be a runway model, but I would love to do something with photography. When I was 12 a lady came up to me at a store and asked me if I wanted to audition to be in a commercial, and I was accepted but my family didn't have enough money for the pictures and we were worried that it might be a scam. Do you think I could be a model? What does it take? Runway models at the shortest are 5'8" but are generally 5'9" to 5'11" tall. This doesn't mean that you couldn't be a part of local shows depending on your look. A portfolio will generally run you anywhere from $300-$700 in any market. That covers the photography, makeup/hair artist, and fashion stylist. And an agency that asks you for money is NOT a scam. They are probably asking you to pay for your comp cards. They use these cards to send out to clients and market you with. That will run you anywhere from $150-$250 depending on how many they want to order for you. They might also charge you about $30-$80 for your physical portfolio book to put your photo prints in. I would not suggest you take classes which can run from $800-$1,500. Walk into your local modeling agency.... if they like your look they will sign you. From there you will have to shoot though. It is possible that they might be able to set you up with "creatives" which is basically a free shoot with a photographer... but the photographer has to see an interest in your look in order to do that... and you'd still have to pay for your own prints. Ask the agency who their clients are and what other agencies they work with and send models off to. Find out what markets these agencies are in. Ask where your look could be sent to. It takes persistence, a good look, a great personality, being social and outgoing... you want to stand out from the rest of the models. In a casting there can be literally hundreds of girls casting for one job.... you have to be memorable. Stay positive... you will hear a lot more no's than yes. And be ready to hear and accept criticism. Wish you luck. If you have any questions, drop me an email at: Sure you can. Just work hard and you can accomplish anything! Typically you have to be taller to do any sort of fashion shoots. Start sending in pictures though and see what happens. Good luck! I wish i could be a model, but I am only 5'4'' with the shortest legs in the world! So there is nothing I can do about it. But definetly keep trying Find a legitimate modeling agency in your area. Bring a parent and don't sign anything without lawyers reading it. You could end up signing your life away. grow a little taller. it is very very hard to become a model. there are soo many beautiful girls in the world and i am sure more than half are trying to be discovered. if you are really serious about it you might want to go to college in California or NYC (where the model scene is). You sound very pretty. but sweetie i am sorry to say but you may not be tall enough for some agencies. the shortest most models should be is 5'8'. but that shouldn't stop you! send out head shots to different agencies. don't give up. and i have to say..if modeling is not your passion you wont make. you have to be 1000% dedicated. since your family doesnt have alot of money i dont think you will be able to model unless somebody is willing to sponsor you |
