I am getting a new Compact Digital camera that has Video abilities. All these formats, are kinds that I am wondering about, they all have PCM audio in Wave Format. The AVI in a MOV container is encoded by a Kodak EasyShare DX6440, and is at 320 x 240 Resolution @ 15 fps. If all these formats were at that resolution and frame rate, then which would take up more space? I was just wondering, because my new camera is going to be a Kodak EasyShare that is getting handed down to me.
The AVI container should take up more space, but I'm not sure. I also think that the MJPEG in MOV container will work the best in terms of compression and taking up less space, but again i am not sure. If you're seriously concerned about space, please use a serious encoding format.
PCM audio is basically raw audio. You should have it encoded as MP3 at worst or AAC or Vorbis.
AVI is a container format, just as MOV is.
AVI is a widespread and very compatible container format, but a modern and better container is MP4.
Your video also has to be encoded. MPEG-4 is widely used. XviD is a solid and popular choice. However, if you want a more modern and space saving choice, then go with h.264. AVI and MJPEG both of them take alot of spaces while u record any movie by those formats |
