I'm looking for any recommendations. Thanks! Tavs, Canon's A series (A420, A520, A610) depending on your budget are excellent value. You usually don't need more than 3 megapixels. But you should buy ones that run on rechargeable AA batteries (otherwise you will be frustrated with constant need for special rechargeables). Also buy a high speed SD memory card such as SanDisk Ultra-II to go along with it. I just got a Kodak Easyshare for christmas, its 5 mega pixel and it works great! It's super compact and has alot of rad features! What are you looking for, Im confused. It really depends on alot of different factors because there are many compact cameras out there that will do decent sized prints. These are two I was looking at buying for myself

Let's say that you want to print 18x23 cm (6x8"), then a 4 MP camera will do it.
I own a SONY CYBERSHOT 4.1 Megapixels DSC-S90 and it's excellent. It's a compact camera, and also can take video clips (sound included) of good quality!
It has a big 2.5" LCD screen (THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT FEATURE, BELIVE ME!!! THINK ABOUT THIS, THE BEAUTY OF A DIGITAL CAMERA IS THAT YOU CAN PRE-SELECT THE PICS BEFORE PRINTING THEM...that means that YOU NEED A BIG LCS SCREEN TO QUICKLY DECIDE WHETHER YOU KEEP THE PIC OR NOT, AND ALSO IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT WHEN TAKING THE PHOTO (YOU ARE NOT GOING TO USE THE VIEWFINDER LIKE IN AN ANALOG CAMERA!!!!!). 2.5" IS A LOT MORE THAN 2" SO DO NOT GET CONFUSED ABOUT THIS. CHOOSE 2.5" OR LARGER LCD SCREEN SIZE). It also comes with AA rechargeble batteries. It comes with a Carl Zeiss optical lens (3X optical zoom), plus digital zoom, of course.

Of course, the more megapixels the better, but remember that more resolution means that you need memory sticks or cards with more capacity (and therefore more expensive), because the pictures you take need more room... I found for myself, for home photography, that this camera was a good choice. But you also may consider the 8 Mpixel version of this Cybershot series... Good luck! yeah, i would pay a bit more attention to the megapixel count if your planning on producing poster size prints.
what size posters? 12x24? 8x11? the larger the print, the more pixels you need. to produce a 10x14 you need at least 8MP. |
