Want to buy compact/point and shoot digital camera/video. Any all round recomendations?

For a decent all round point and shoot digital, check out the Sony Cybershot line. They come with the better optical zoom lens and depending on the price you want to pay, differant mega pixel pickup chips.

I bought an Olympus C-760 to photograph my new grandaughter 13 months ago and am amazed at it. I just wanted digital anything but the 10 x optical zoom allows close ups without frightening the subject. It is hardy and has been out on ski-ing trips in my waist bag and behaved flawlessly. It has taken pictures under floodlights and at the fairground with beautiful results. It has more features than I need but I really like what I use. Only 3.2 mega but with the size I print to I find it perfectly fine.

canon powershot sd500 elph is great and you can even get an underwater housing for it
