I want to buy a compact digital camera with decent zoom. Money no object. What should I buy?

I use an apple mac, so need a camera that is compatible. I carry so many gadgets (phone, iPod, PSP etc.) that i need my camera to by light and portable.

What's the best camera to buy? I would love to read your advice. Cheers.

Your best bet is to visit a camera shop and try out different ones tailored to suit your needs. You can also get advice on what sort of camera you would like depending on what you want to use it for.

I would have thought that you have, very sensibly, come to the right place here to get help. But so far the answers are not very serious are they. The last place to try to get a sensible answer would be a camera shop as they will have a vested interest. Go for a well known manufacturer, compare all the specifications yourself, and use your own best judgement - after all you know what you want why be influenced by others ?

Money no object? Leica LC1

The most compact Digital Camera nowdays are very thin. The downside will be max of 3x digital zoom. Which is for me pretty decent.
Sony T lineup. Canon IXUS. Nikon S.

While there are a number of excellent compact cameras- right now I'd recommend the Canon SD700IS.

You get the great Canon image processing, a bit more zoom (4x) than a typical 3x compact, and image stabilization built in. It was a bit pricey, but now the price is dropping and you can get it for close to $400 from reputable on line retailers such as NewEgg.com or BuyDig.com
