How many megapixels would the human eye be rated at?

With digital cameras the quality is measured in mega pixels so i was wondering, how good is the human eye compared to the best camera available?

Its not really a like for like comparison - the colour sensors in the human eye are actually concentrated in a relatively small area that is scanned around to build a whole picture. However, based on the acuity of perception, the whole field of view of a normal eye is somewhere between 300 and 600 megapixels. Of course, it is also a moving image.

Standard film also captures far more detail than a typical digital camera - typically equivalent to at least 20 megapixels.

The other issue with comparison is sensitivity. Digital imaging sensors are quite linear in response, which is not good for high contrast images. Both film and the human eye have a much better dynamic range than a digital sensor.

I haven't got a Scooby-Doo mate....

If you really want to talk logic, the human eye is infinite megapixel because the image isn't little squares.

Hey guys, digital cameras was created by human so you are able to measure them. Your eye was created by Mother Nature, I am not sure that she would want you to know how she created it (maybe the trouble of copyright ^_^)
Human abilities are endless so I believe our eye is better then the best camera in some ways.
Good luck !

the creater has given us the best quality cameras in form of our eyes, the best camera or any optical machine made by man kind can never be compared to our eyes. Its like a camera lens with the best megapixel and superb features, have you ever thought do u need to set the focus for eyes as we do in all professional cameras.????//

We see all that the different camera's see and more...........I would think that our eyes rate high but what exact number I could not find..........

Digital photography is more natural than film photography. Your vision system is subjective. Your brain is continually adjusting the appearance of what you see. Digital photography puts this subjectivity into your photographs, thus enabling you to take pictures as you see them. First take the picture, then use your computer to adjustment the image to match what your eyes saw.

Unlike the human eye, film is not subjective. As a result, film doesn't do a very good job of capturing what you see. To put good images on film, studio photographers control the environment to create an image that the film will capture well. Outside the studio, photographers using film have to pick subjects that the film can capture well. A lot of images that look good to the eye simply will not photograph well. So, film photographers face lose a lot of opportunities because their eyes can see something interesting but the film simply cannot reproduce what their eyes see.
