7) I am interested in knowing more about the digital cam as I am interested in photography & intend to buy one The most important specification is how you intend to use a camera. Think about what you want to do and then match cameras to your needs.
These are some camera features you will be shown:
Resolution: makes a difference in how big you can print clear pics - 4 mp for 5x7, 5-6 mp for 8x10, 7 & up for bigger. If you want to print big, or crop out small portions and enlarge big, more mp's are useful. One downside of more mp's is that it takes proportionally more hard drive and memory card space to store the pictures.
Zoom: Most come with 3x zoom (make the pic appear 3 times closer). If you want to shoot from far away, you need a bigger zoom (up to 12x now) and image stabilization.
Screen size: Bigger is more convenient, but none are great. Most are difficult to see outside on sunny days. Pick what seems nice to you.
Video: Many digicams take video clips, but they are meant for short clips. The clips use up memory card space very quickly, especially at higher quality settings.
Camcorders take longer and usually better movies, but are mediocre at still pics.
Buy either for what they are good at.
Brand: My family is happy with Canon or Sony (but there are many different models of each).
Download to digicam: Although computers can write on the camera's memory card (download), usually the format cannot be read by the camera. So, no (Why would you want to?)
Learning: Look on the web for camera sites. they have lots of detailed reviews, forums, and tutorials.
Don't take reviews too seriously. The ones by pros are very picky and overly critical.
Look for a camera that meets your needs now, feels good in your hands and meets your budget. Touch and feel lots of different ones; they are different. Most will perform well technically, so look for one that you "like" and will enjoy using (a useful "toy").

They are not terms that professional use. If you are new to photography, i suggest you go to the library and find a basic photography book to read. In terms of digicam and video cam, I think a video cam can never be able to take good pciture and a digicam can never take good video. So you will have to choose what is more important to you. Sony video cam is what I suggest. For digital cameras, you will have to do your homework because different people consider different brands and models bases on needs. I would consider canon or fuji for $200 price range (new). Digicam uses memory card, such as CF, MMC, or SD. As long as you have a card reader you can transfer picture in both directions. Like I said, go to a library or bookstore to learn more about it to commiting your wallet. |
