What do I get my husband for his birthday when all he wants is tools, which I don't know a thing about?

His birthday is tomorrow and my last chance to get him something is during my lunch hour tomorrow. I am at a complete loss. He told me that all he wants is tools because he eventually wants his own tool shop set up in the pole barn. Which is cool, but I already told him that he has to get that himself because I don't have a clue what I'm looking at. I don't want to get him something he doesn't really need or want, so I'd much rather him just pick it out himself. At Christmas, all I wanted was a digital camera and he made me pick it out myself because he didn't want to get something I wouldn't like. Isn't this the same situation? The only problem is, every time we go to look at tools, he always leaves without purchasing anything with a sad look on his face. He can't even find what he's looking for with the right price, so how can I find it for him. He's been working hard and deserves something, but what can I get him that he doesn't have besides tools? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Try a gift card to his favorite home improvement store. He may not buy any tools but at least he will buy something there that he wants or could use. If you feel that a gift card isn't good enough then I suggest a nice laser level, or perhaps you could just take him to the store and tell him to pick out the one thing he wants a get it for him. I would bet that it wouldn't matter what kind of tool or tools you got him he would just appreciate the fact that you are getting him something that falls within his interests. Good Luck

Two words: GIFT CARD!

A gift card to a hardware store. Maybe not a Home Depot, but a local place where they could really help him determine what he needs or should get.

Simple: a gift card to Home Depot.

yep buy him a gift card for the hardware store

A steak dinner alway satisfies and a bj afterwords

Give him a gift certificate from Home Depot or Lowes.

Get him a home depot gift card or a sears gift card...I personally would buy him as a joke the little tykes tool set at your local toy store.

Call his best buddy or the guys at work??

i would get him a tool bench or a power drill thing..i dont think you can go wrong with one of them...or you can just give the man some hot sex.

homedepot.com northerntool.com lowes.com sears.com

a gift card from sear, home depot, or lowes or any other place that sells toold

A gift card to Sears, Lowes, Home Depot or something like that. Or if you have his list take it to one of these places and ask someone to help you.

Well, if he is like all of us guys, yes we do like tools. Get him a gift card to Lowes, Homedepot,Sears, etc.

You could make a "gift certificate" for whatever you want to spend, redeemable at your nearest Home & Garden shopping center. Go there with him and let him pick out his tools. You'll spend the day together and he'll get what he wants. Hopefully. Good things to get for a tool shop are (1) a vise, (2) a table saw (3) a jig saw; (4) a lathe, (5) a tool chest, (6) electric drill and drill bits, (7) a set of socket wrenches that can be used with an electric drill.

As his wife you know his hobbies, right? well, go to the Hardware store and ask them to tell you what tools would be appropriate and then you pick whic of those that are the right price. I worked in a hardware store for a few years and i had many women come in asking me for advice on power tools (as i am a woman also and far less intimidating) you would be suprised the amount of help you can get. Or, try and recall a particular power tool he has mentioned. Ask the sales people for advice. Im sure if its from you and the effort involved he will swoon over it.

2 things
Firstly
get him a gift voucher at a store where we can buy tools, then he can choose
Second
go and buy a big piece of ribbon and tie around yourself (naked)
and attach the gift voucher

The only thing I can think of is to get him a drill set. My husband has a drill set that comes with even a small vacuum cleaner, 2 sets of flash lights, and a battery with charger.

Yikes! NOT A GIFT CARD! LOL.

I am sorry you are struggling with this.

You know, we live in an age where everybody (not you) wants the easy out with a gift certificate, a magazine, cash. I went through something similar with my husband!

It is soooooo much nicer to get "a real gift"!

Why not plan ahead and go to a store tomorrow at lunch where you KNOW you can get him something nice that he can really use, forget the tools for now, it is too obvious.

How about a new brightly colored warm jacket with lots of pockets for when he is out there in the pole barn? How about something handy that he is sure to use no matter what? See the links below.

Have fun!

How about a gift card from his favorite tool store. thenn he can go look whenever he wants to.

Ask your boy friend to help pick out some tools.

get him a gift card for menards or lowes or whatever tool and ficeruper store you have out by you, he will at least be able to choose himself and still it will be a gift from you

gift cards suck.

Go to the local mom and pop hardare store, find a nice handy man looking fella that works therre, tell him how much you can spend and what you husband likes to make or wants to make. Look at what the nice handyman guy shows you and see if you recognize it from the tools he already has.

You can NEVER go wrong with a drill set or a socket set. Just don't get a really cheap one, middle of the road like craftsman can be bought at sears or kmart. Ask the handyman fella for the quality level that you are looking for too.

Personally I think tools and appliances are BAD gift ideas, it'd be like me giving my wonderful lady a set of cake pans. She would kick my butt, even if it is what she asked for, I know better.

Tickets to opening day baseball would be much better.

get him a nice work bench or tool cabinet to go in the pole barn...help him start his own shop! He can always buy the tools he wants himself...

Gift card Lowes or Home Depot
