PLEASE ANSWER. I am buying a dell laptop.?

It's called an Inspiron B130 Notebook from dell. I like the price ($479) but it's advertised as a basic laptop. Will I still be able to play music, upload and edit images from my digital camera and play games? It has the following:
Intel Celeron M Processor 380 (1.60Ghz, 1 MB l2 Cache, 400MHz FSB) Is that enough ram and stuff to do what I want to do?

Sorry I did forget the RAM. Its 256MB ram but i was looking at uppgrading to 512 MB ram. Thanks for your help everyone.

The B130 is a good basic entry level laptop. I bought the earlier version called the Inspiron 1200 about a year ago. You've got a faster processor (1.60 vs. 1.30 Ghz) and a larger hard drive (40GB vs. 30GB) than the 1200. I believe the B130 comes with 256MB RAM standard, so I would definitely upgrade that to the max. If you can't afford to buy the maximum, at least upgrade it to 512MB.

You will be able to work with digital images, music, and many games. But if you're looking to play games with 3D imaging, etc. it's going to be rough. (Best thing to do is check the games specs to see what the minimums are.)

One thing I would very strongly suggest is that you get a laptop cooling pad (an auxiliary cooling fan the laptop sits on.) It will plug in to one of the USB ports and provide a lot of extra cooling. I've had my laptop on 24/7 for almost a year now with no problems.

How much ram does it have? Get at least a gigabyte. It should then play some games but do not expect it to play any really advanced games requiring a high end graphics adapter.

the laptop you mentioned is enough for what you said you want to do, but in general, the celeron processors are not a good choice, and the ram is too low to play most games on it.
my advice is to pay little extra for an intel centrino processor with bigger ram like 512 MB or so. and to have the ability to be up-gradable so you can up grade it whenever you want anc can afford.

It depends on what kind of games you want to play and how much you want to edit your images. If you're just looking to resize and do minor touch-ups to your images and play basic games, you should be fine. If you want to be pushing Photoshop's limits and play massive online games with great graphics, you might have a problem.

Music and uploading images, yes. Games and image editing, maybe. It depends on what games you want to play and what software you want to edit images with.

Games and media editing use a lot of resources. Most modern software (Elder Scrolls Oblivios and Photoshop CS2 for example) of this type will run poorly on slower computers. You will have to compare the individual program to your specs as you buy programs. Older programs (Starcraft and earlier versions of photoshop) will generally run ok.

By the way, you didn't actually tell us how much RAM you have. A basic laptop is probably only going to have 256 or 512 MB, which isn't enough for more advanced software.

All of the specs are good except the processor. Celeron's run very hot (especially with Dell laptops for some reason), in fact, so hot that you cannot comfortably use it for more than a few minutes without burning your legs; which is ironic, since it is called a 'laptop'!

Go with a Centrino processor or something similar.

It will work fine for basic use. Gaming use will depend entirely upon what games you want to run. Few laptops handle video-intensive games very well at all.

Make sure that you get at least 512MB of RAM. 1GB would be better. You didn't list the amount of RAM.

Well basic is usually not that great. celeron is not as good as centrino duo. It also depends on how big the hard drive is you want nothing smaller than 80gig. Your specs have nothing to do with ram, just procesor speed. for your ram you want atleast 512MB

laptop computers can be a rather tricky buy at times, I would suggest that you look out for the cheapest and yet latest desktop on the market,

the best way to do this is on what they call warehouse sale markets some of them are online.

these warehouse owners have a service where they sell laptop computers to normal customers like you and me, however with very reduced prices due to the fact that they do not have as much costs as normal shops do, such as rent and a employees etc. as you know most online shops have rather competitive prices sometimes cutting the laptop price to a half.
