Okay, lets see if I can explain this the best way possible.
I broke my video camera, I think way beyond repair (a TV fell on top of it). I have one that plays Hi8 tapes. I don't care so much about the camera as I do about the tapes and the memories they hold.
I've looked into buying a new camera, but 200 dollars is a tad out of my price range, and the next one I get I want to be miniDV or some other digital camera.
My question is...I want to have my tapes put on DVD or even VHS, I don't care which one. The question is, where would I go about doing this, and do any of you have any idea as to how much it would cost?
Any help what so ever would be great....if you have had this problem and found away around it, I'd be happy for your response!

You can buy an adapter (It looks like a VHS tape). You pop the Hi8 tape into it, and insert into your VCR.
If you buy a VHS/DVD recorder, this will work perfectly. You will be able to put them directly onto DVD, so you can enjoy them for years to come.
I hope this helped, good luck! :) 15 bucks at a wal-mart photo center gets you a DVD. Hope this helps! If you get a Digital 8 camcorder, you will be able to play your Hi 8 tapes in it. I had a friend who had the same situation a few years back. Digital 8 is electronically identical to DV ( it just uses a different tape size) so you'd be able to use a firewire connection to transfer your new tapes tapes to your computer. Not sure if that will work for the old ones but you would be able to use the video out connector on the camera to plug into a VHS machine and copy your tapes that way.
You'd probabbly spend as much getting your tapes transferred to DVD as if you bought a new Camcorder anyway. First you can get a Sony 480 Digital 8 that also plays Hi8 for about $340
Any out lab can transfer it for you. Wal-Mart does it for like $22 per 2 hour tape and it takes 2 weeks. |
